Aristides Meneses coloca os três seres humanos como prisioneiros, obviamente mais interessados no que as ondas acabam de trazer do que no mensageiro de Deus.
The divine, in the sense of Creation, appears here in the form of the messenger of God and assuming an observer role.

Todo o tema realça a enorme contradição entre a existência de um filósofo, entidade que procura a luz, no sentido do conhecimento, e o ambiente de penumbra, fortemente escurecido. No exterior existe mais luminosidade, como se pode observar pela transparência da cortina que o filósofo prefere manter corrida.
The whole painting shows the enormous contradiction between the existence of a philosopher, someone looking for light, in the sense of knowledge, and the environment of heavy penumbra. Outside there is more light, as one can see through the curtain, which the philosopher prefers to keep closed. |

O título da obra refere-se à figura central, com um manto azul escuro, carregando o que parece ser um machado. O ambiente agreste e a árvore retorcida são elementos que surgem frequentemente ao longo da sua obra.
A partir de 2003 os personagens encarnados e azuis que povoam este quadro aproximam-se repentinamente, crescem e passam a ocupar todo o espaço. Veja-se especialmente “A família original”, “E depois foi-se embora”, “A morte prematura” ou “Casal improvável”.
The title of this work makes reference to the central figure, in a dark blue gown carrying what seems to be an axe. The aggressive environment and the twisted tree are frequent elements in his works.
Since 2003 the blue and red personages who appear in the background, suddenly come to the front of the painting, grow and fill all the space. See especially “The original family”, “Premature death” “And then he went away” or “Improbable couple”. |
