Um conjunto de auto ilusões, que se estende ao próprio título do quadro. O remador rema em terra. A jovem passeia num barco parado. Diogenes esforça-se por iluminar o dia. E o pintor pintou um bote.
A capacidade humana para a auto ilusão tem sido um tema muito trabalhado por Aristides Meneses, surgindo muitas vezes ao longo de toda a sua obra.
A group of dellusions that includes the painter. The boatman paddles on dry land. The girl travels in a boat which does not move. Diogenes tries to iluminate dayligth. And the painter painted a small boat.
The capacity for human dellusions is a subject that Aristides Meneses likes to work on. |

Aristides Meneses afirmou uma vez que se pudesse salvar apenas um quadro de toda a história da arte salvaria “Cristo carregando a Cuz” de Bosch.
Nesta sua interpretação, a face de Cristo é idêntica à do quadro de Bosch, mas todos os outros personagens e a temática geral são totalmente diferentes, retirando-lhe objectivamente todo o significado religioso. No imaginário cristão, este significado mantém-se e é reforçado, mais uma vez de forma ambígua, pelo título escolhido.
Aristides Meneses said, once, that if he could only save one painting from the whole history of art, he would save Bosch “Christ carrying the cross”.
In this interpretation, the leading face is the same from Bosch but all the others and the overall subject are totally different, objectively stripped of all the religious content. However, for Christians the meaning is kept and even reinforced, by the title, in an ambiguous way. |
